Halloween 2009

Needless to say, the “hoopla” of Halloween is now over. As I sit here at my laptop and reflect on my Halloween 2009. I can’t help but wonder, “Is Halloween still for the kids or not?”

My mother wished me a Happy Halloween once she woke me up. Once I remembered that today was Halloween, I began to think about how I was going to pull this clown costume off. I had this cute polka dot dress my dear pal Marianne gave me, that had never been worn. It was wayyy too big for me but I knew I could put it to use somehow. If its one thing I CAN do…is be creative. My morning began, feeding my dogs as usual. I remembered I owned some florescent fish net tights and some kooky leg warmers.

I was really into it. I was determined to make this “Pinky the Clown” character pop. So as time rolled on pass. More ideas came to my head. As I got dressed, “Pinky” began to come alive. She went from just plain old “Pinky” the clown, to “Pinky the Punk Rock clown”. Oh yes, and one little girl called me “Hannah Montana”, lol.

But let me just fast forward real quick. So I passed out candy to the little goblins and princess. By the way, kids aren’t really dressing up much anymore. What’s up with that?

But back to the point…so my doorbell rings and I open the door. “Trick or Treat”, it was two of the heaviest baritone voices you could imagine. I am not exaggerating when I tell you; there were literally two GROWN MEN, at my door with candy bags. They had to be at least 30. OK, maybe not 30, but seriously about 26.27…I mean they had facial hair and everything. I didn’t know if I should give them candy, scream, or call the cops. I couldn’t tell if I was about to be robbed or if these men just honestly wanted candy.

It was serious guys. I mean my parents were sitting on the couch, and when my dad heard those heavy voices, he got up and came to the door. I think them seeing me dressed up as a clown may have caught them off guard as well and perhaps if they did have bad intentions, I think I threw them off. Lol. It’s cool to dress up as an adult. I think it makes the kids experience more fun. I know as a little girl; I would get a kick out of seeing the adults dressed up as well. But you take it to a whole different level when you come up to the door with a candy bag, and no kids, saying “Trick or treat”. Come on now, GO SHAVE!!!

Well that about sums up my Halloween 2009. Leave me some feedback. What was your most memorable moment for Halloween this year? Did you dress up?

Hi Noocie, I think you and little (G) look so cute, As for my Halloween evening being an adult, I just enjoyed relaxing (Thanks). But as far as the two grown men showing up at your door with candy bags trick or treating. I am so glad things turned out well, because we are living in some very serious times. Suzy

    Hey Cuz,
Cute Costume! and blog/costume concept. For a minute I thought you were, ” Wild ‘N Out Dorothy and Toto,” and no I didn’t dress up this year, but definitely would have. It’s been a very busy, yet exciting October and this weekend brought it all home. If I had had time, I would have gotten a costume, or perhaps put one together. Our initial plans were to head to Great America this weekend, as we’ve done over the years. However, after checking the 7 day weather forecast last weekend while in Arkansas for Homecoming, I realized that wasn’t happening. Lately, for about the past few years, we’ve done, ” Grim Reapers” Haunted House, I think in Maywood, IL., which is absolutely fantastic, however, the block long lines can be a pain, but well worth the wait. Unfortunately, the weather was a big decision-maker in that as well. So, I decided to pick up tons of candy at the grocery store, some apple cider and whip cream and headed to Blockbuster to buy a movie for the evening. Luckily, the hubb was on the same page, he bought about five horror movies home, one bootleg, but glad it was, because wouldn’t have paid a dime extra for it and super glad didn’t go to the movies to see it, ” Paranormal Activity.” This didn’t move me at all and I know I could have put together a better movie myself, hell, my kids have made better movies. Guess, it made millions though and I’m sure the initial money that went into the making was the advertisement to pump it up the way it did. This was in my opinion, no where near in comparison to the still most scariest movie of all time in my book, ” The Exorcist.” It had few similarities, but that’s it. Just goes to show you, you really don’t have to have a lot of talent to make a lot of money. Anyhow, didn’t finish the rest of the movies, but the one’s I did, were great compared to that one. Lastly, my younger two kids dressed up and Diva Maree painted their faces as they happily passed out candy in between movie breaks and drinking cider. That is of course until I had to drop Liyah off to a friend’s Halloween party. Qell was into the computer on facebook, but had a party as well, but didn’t have all the details, so he chilled in doors. We also wished C.J.(My college son, for those that don’t know)a Happy Halloween via phone. So all in all, eventhough, we no longer do the door-to-door, for safety/religious reasons, we still decorate, but with a harvest theme, mostly pumpkins, scarecrows, corn, gourdes, hay, etc., we still enjoy the gift of giving, which is why the treat part of Halloween still remains a tradition. If & when we dress, I try to make it cute, or fun, but if the kids want to use their imagination, I let em even if it’s scary, cause the older kids not into being too cute, or funny anymore. I think being creative enhances the mind and regardless of the temptations or reasoning behind Halloween, I look at it as having a day to be anything/anyone you want without scrutiny, or disapproval. It’s a time to use your imagination and be creative, but still knowing your place with God. With that, I’m out people, have a blessed November.
